Want to Improve Your Footy?
For many footballers, the difference between a successful season and one plagued by time on the sidelines comes down to how they manage their physical preparation.
Whether you play at a grassroots level or are competing semi-professionally, you likely know the frustration of repetitive niggles that hold you back from playing at your best.
At Recover Physio, we believe that physiotherapy is not just about treating injuries; it is a vital tool for staying healthy, proactive, and ready for match day. A comprehensive football physio assessment is the foundation of a robust performance strategy, helping you move with efficiency and confidence rather than just surviving the season.
What happens during a football physio assessment?
During your football physio assessment, we move beyond just looking at a single point of pain. We conduct a thorough clinical review to understand how your body functions as a complete system. This systematic approach includes several key components:
- Range of Motion & Mobility: We address joint restrictions that might be limiting your agility or preventing you from reaching full stride during a sprint.
- Strength Assessment: Our therapists identify imbalances between muscle groups, such as hamstring-to-quadriceps ratios, which are frequently the root cause of recurring strains.
- Biomechanical Review: We analyse your movement patterns to spot inefficiencies in how you turn, jump, and land.
- Treadmill Gait Analysis: By evaluating your running mechanics at speed, we can identify subtle irregularities that lead to over-use injuries over the course of a season.

After slightly rupturing my achilles while playing walking football, I used Recover Physio for my rehabilitation. Henry, my physio, checked my achilles to assess the damage and set about a recovery program for my from the first visit. I’m now pleased to say that that after four visits and following my treatment program, my injury has now virtually healed and I am back to playing my walking football. So thankyou Henry and Recover Physio for all your help. If I had to be picky about anything, it is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for, and this is 1st class treatment.
Oliver was great, he really helped us to understand the process of our daughter’s recovery from a football injury she sustained and ultimately got her to playing the game she loves. Would highly recommend!
I can sincerely recommend Physio Recovery . Obviously I can only speak for the physio that had been treating myself. Oliver, is not just professional , but has a very caring manner . it’s obvious he wishes to help individuals by going above and beyond with information finding regarding other referrals that may be required . He’s happy to involve other members of his team for a second opinion if needed. I started seeing Oliver 15 months ago and I would like to say a huge thank you to him for his help and support. My son was also a client of Oliver’s who has made a great recovery and is now back to running and playing football again . I have no hesitation in recommending Physio Recovery x
I came to Grace with a knee ligament injury with little hope that I would be playing football again this season but she was incredible and with her fantastic knowledge and expertise she has discharged me within 6 weeks and I’m back doing what I love! Cannot recommend her enough! Thank you

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a football physio assessment?
A football physio assessment includes a thorough review of your injury history, a physical examination of movement patterns, and targeted tests for strength, mobility, and biomechanics. This provides a clear diagnosis and a personalised plan for your recovery or performance goals.
Can a physio help with injury prevention?
Yes. Physiotherapy aids in injury prevention by identifying biomechanical weaknesses or muscle imbalances before they cause pain. We develop proactive routines that strengthen the body against the specific demands of football, reducing the risk of future time on the sidelines.
How is this different from a standard medical check?
While a standard medical check focuses on general health and vital signs, a football physio assessment is specifically tailored to sports performance and movement efficiency. It addresses the unique physical demands placed on football players, focusing on musculoskeletal health and biomechanical function.
